Last week, my boyfriend L was talking into the television remote asking it to find a show that he wanted to watch. “My remote doesn’t listen,” I said to L. “Well my new one does,” L replied. “You should get one.”
A few days later, I was invited to attend a blogger event in Lawrenceville, NJ, put on by Comcast to introduce their Xfinity stores. I was eager to learn more about the Xfinity services, especially since I am a long-time customer who is paying a lot for many of these services and not utilizing them to the fullest.
The presentations left me in awe of the entertainment that is available at my fingertips. And it isn’t even a coming attraction – it’s already here, right now in my house. The technology was fascinating – almost like magic! For those of you who are Xfinity customers, I encourage you to read on.
A Voice Remote of My Very Own
“Would you like one of our new Voice Remotes?” said the Xfinity manager Jen as I entered the store. “Yes,yes, yes,” I said. “I can’t wait to show my boyfriend L that I have a remote that I can talk to. Now I just have to learn how to use it.”
Thankfully team members Anton and Jordan were nearby to share directions, including how to search for networks, shows and movies, set DVR recordings, change the channel, get recommendations, navigate On Demand and more, all with vocal commands.
“Can I find out when an HBO movie with Bryan Cranston is scheduled? Cranston will be playing the role of President Lyndon Johnson,” I said. “Sure,” replied Anton as he pushed down on the microphone button and uttered the name Bryan Cranston. Up popped television shows and movies that Xfinity offers which feature Cranston. Anton scrolled the images until he found All the Way. “That’s it. That’s amazing,” I said.
Anton explained that all you need to do for voice activation is speak into the remote with the actor’s name or the name of a show and it will pop up on the screen.
Jordan also introduced us to Integrated Xfinity apps which allow you to follow your favorite team while watching another show, bring your Facebook feed or photos up on the big screen, play your Pandora playlist, check local weather and traffic, and more. He told us that pressing the (C) button provides sports and game times for viewing.
Okay, okay, okay. If you are an Xfinity customer like me and don’t have one of these new remotes, I want you to call up your local Xfinity customer service number now and ask for one. It is free. Yes, I said it is free and it will change your life as it relates to your entertainment.
Entertainment and Communications On-The-Go
Next up, Jordan shared multiple Xfinity Mobile Apps to enjoy while on the go. Fellow Xfinity X1 customers, do you know all of these apps? If not, I’m going to tell you which ones you need to download to your mobile tablets and phones. You can find the free apps at xfinity.com/apps:

Keeping Your Home Secure
Team member Jeff previewed Comcast’s total home security and automation solution Xfinity Home. It was awesome with a 24/7 professional security monitoring; at home or on-the-go access; live video monitoring; remote thermostat control; real-time notifications; and more. While I wasn’t looking for a new security system, it was quite an advanced technological application. It too had a mobile app.
I left the event thinking more positive thoughts about Comcast. I was pleased that they are trying to improve their customer service with new systems and Xfinity stores.
Fast forward a few days later:
My boyfriend L and I were sitting down to watch television for the evening. I was telling L that Xfinity offers over 100,000 on demand shows free.
“What do you want to watch tonight?” L asked. “I’d like to watch that HBO show with Bryan Cranston, where he plays LBJ,” I replied. “What’s the name of the show, when is it on?” L asked. “Let me see if I can find it,” I replied as I spoke Bryan Cranston’s name into my new Voice Remote and up popped All the Way. “Impressive,” L said. “You’re pretty good with that remote.” We both enjoyed the show and Cranston did an incredible job playing LBJ. I highly recommend you watch it.
